Details about GATE 2015

The GATE (Graduate Aptitude test in Engineering) is organized by IIT Kanpur and was held between 31^st January and 14 February 2015. To get into M tech and other post graduation programmes one has to sit for this online exam.  It is an all India exam to test the undergraduate students on subjects of engineering and science.

Application Form Submission Strictly Online

• The fee payment is done only via online mode. Credit card, debit card, net banking or e-challan can be used for the same.
• The registration and the application are also done online by accessing the zonal GATE websites of IISC or any of the seven IITs.
• Document submission is also online, no hard copies are accepted.
• These are the new rules that were initiated from 2015.
• The syllabus can be uploaded from the GATE Syllabus 2015 PDF file which contains all the topics from where questions can be asked and the application file is available at http://gate.iitk.ac.in/GATE2015/.
• So the three steps of the form submission includes: online registration, fee payment and completing details and form submission.

The Documents Required

• Eligibility Certificate—degree/ provisional/course completion/ certificate from principal
• Caste and PWD certificate (if applicable)
• Photograph
• Signature

Question Pattern, Paper Structure and Marking Scheme

• The duration is three hours, number of questions asked is 65 and the maximum marks are 100.
• There are 10 questions of 15 marks from the General Aptitude section and 5 questions of 1 mark and 5 questions of 2 marks.
• Multiple choice questions will have four options and in the numerical answer type questions, the candidate is required to calculate the final answer as a numerical value.
• There is no negative marking for numerical value questions.  Plus 1 for correct answers in 1 mark and -1/3 for incorrect and plus 2 for the correct 2 marks ones and -2/3 for the incorrect ones.

GATE IIT does have GATE coaching centres to prepare you for the main exams and there is GATE Coaching Centres in Bangalore to guide you through and explain the difficulties.
